Jewish Theatre Circle
Statement of Purpose
Mission
The Jewish Theatre Circle of NYC is an affinity group for Jewish theatre artists and our theatre colleagues to come together in community. Our mission is to inspire, collaborate, nurture, network, learn and share our theatre work, and to engage with the wider community in creative ways.
Our Values
The Jewish Theatre Circle of NYC is founded on Jewish values of respect for one another, equality, shared responsibility, fairness, justice, inquisitiveness, learning, kindness and caring, as well as a commitment to tikkun olam (doing our part to heal the world) and tzedakah (good works).
Participants
The Jewish Theatre Circle of NYC is an inclusive group, open to theatre artists in all areas of theatremaking (writers, directors, actors, producers, donors, designers, stage managers, administrators, and more). People of all genders, races, ethnicities ages, backgrounds, abilities and identities are welcome to join, as are people of all faiths, all levels of faith commitment or of no faith.
Organization
The Jewish Theatre Circle of NYC will be run collaboratively by members who take rotating facilitation roles and share responsibility for guiding meetings and activities.
Activities
Starting in May 2022, The Jewish Theatre Circle of NYC has been meeting once a month or so either in person or on Zoom. Meetings are shaped by a designated facilitator who will plan an agenda consistent with our values. These activities include talks and discussions about theatre, world events, or topics arising in the Jewish ecosphere, readings of works, opportunities to share and to build camaraderie. The meetings are guided by Community Agreements by which participants pledge to be respectful, share the ‘mic,’ and are mindful of group values and needs. The Jewish Theatre Circle of NYC is not a producing organization.
Affiliation
The Jewish Theatre Circle of NYC will function as an independent service organization. The group has partnered with The Actors’ Temple to advance creativity and inclusivity.
Initiating Artists
Coming together as facilitators are Jenny Lyn Bader, Cindy Cooper, Jessica Feder-Birnbaum, Dana Leslie Goldstein, and Miriam Kulick
